NUC shuts down 58 Illegal Universities (See List)

The National Universities Commission (NUC), has closed down not less 58 Universities operating illegally across some states of the federation.

The Commission, in it’s Bulletin for the Month of March 2020 by it’s Executive Secretary Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, explained that the Institutions violated the education law by not obtaining licence from the Federal Government before commence operation.

Below is the list of the Universities:

1) University of Accountancy and Management Studies, operating anywhere in

The commission also disclosed that 9 other illegal universities are currently undergoing investigation and court actions. Among which are:

1) National University of Nigeria, Keffi, Nasarawa State
2) North Central University, Otukpo, Benue State
3) Christ Alive Christian Seminary and University, Enugu Campus
4) Richmond Open University, Arochukwu, Abia State.
5) West Coast University, Umuahia.
6) Saint Clements University, Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State
7) Volta University College, Aba, Abia State.
8) Illegal Satellite Campuses of Ambrose Alli University.
9) L.I.F.E Leadership University, Benin City, Edo State.

NUC however warned the public to desist from patronising the listed institutions.

“For the avoidance of doubt, anybody who patronises or obtains any of its certificate from any of these illegal institutions does so at his or her own risk. Certificates obtained from these sources will not be recognised for the purposes of NYSC, employment, and further studies.

“The relevant Law enforcement agencies have also been informed for their
Nigeria further necessary action.”
