NSCDC Tackles Rising Cases of Gender-Based Violence in Kwara

The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has ramped up efforts to combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV) under the leadership of Dr. Umar JG Mohammed.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at the Command’s headquarters in Ilorin, Commandant Umar disclosed that the Gender Unit has handled 159 GBV cases over the past year.

These cases include 76 instances of domestic violence, physical assault, and intimidation; 58 cases of neglect of responsibilities; 11 cases of sexual abuse and rape; 12 threats to life; and 2 cases of missing children.

Commandant Umar assured the public that many of these cases are already in court, and the perpetrators will face legal consequences.

He reaffirmed the Corps’ strong stance against GBV and reiterated their commitment to working with various stakeholders to effectively tackle this issue.

Also, Umar urged the public to support the Corps by providing essential information that could help in preventing crimes.

He stressed the importance of community collaboration in ensuring the safety and protection of vulnerable individuals, particularly women and children.

The NSCDC Kwara State Command remains dedicated to addressing the challenges of Gender-Based Violence and ensuring that justice is served for victims.
