The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kogi State has apprehended three individuals accused of criminal conspiracy and vandalism of armoured cables.

The arrests occurred following incidents on October 7 and October 20 in Ankpa and Isanlu, both in Yagba East Local Government Area.

While parading the suspects at the NSCDC headquarters in Lokoja, Kogi State NSCDC Commandant Esther Akinlade revealed that joint efforts by security personnel and NSCDC officers led to the arrests.

She highlighted the role of local security guards in capturing one suspect, Agbo Christian, 33, from Enugu State, after he and others allegedly vandalized cables at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) premises in Ankpa.

“Agbo was apprehended by the premises’ security guard during his second operation on October 18, 2024.

His accomplices, who are still on the run, escaped. Tools used in the vandalism, including a saw, chisel, and spanners, were recovered from Agbo, who has admitted to the crime,” Commandant Akinlade disclosed.

In a separate incident on October 20, around 9 a.m., two additional suspects, James Nifemi (29) and Ibrahim Jafaru (37), were arrested in collaboration with community members in Ofin, Isanlu. The two were found with armoured cables reportedly stolen from a community transformer. Upon questioning, both suspects confessed to the crime, and authorities are pursuing a third suspect still at large.

Commandant Akinlade assured that all three suspects would be promptly charged in court, urging residents to continue supporting the NSCDC in combating criminal activities across the state.

In an interview, the suspects admitted their actions and appealed for leniency from the authorities.
