NOA sensitizes youth against drug addiction, Cyber Crime

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on youths to shun illicit intake of drugs, cyber crime and other social vices in Nigeria.

The Agency commenced its campaign against social vices across tertiary institutions at the kwara state polytechnic in Ilorin on Wednesday.

Speaking at the event, the Kwara State Deputy Governor, Mr. Kayode Alabi stated that the illicit use of drugs does not only have adverse effect in the body, but also lead to the destruction of youth career.

Alabi who maintained that not less than 35 million Nigerians are on drugs, said majority of those who are currently at the rehabilitation homes across the country are students from tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

Speaking on the effect of cyber crime, cultism and prostitution, the deputy governor said “all this social vices are the leads to bad leaders, people who indulge in them constitute nuisance in institution and their community.”

He however enjoined all students to shun all form of negative attitudes which is capable of destroying their future.

Meanwhile the NOA Director General, Dr. Garba Abari has reiterated the Agencies commitment in partnering with individuals and organization in curbing social menace in the Country.

Speaking at the event, the NOA DG who was represented by the Ekiti State Director Mr. Dayo Famusaya urged the students to desist from deadly and dangerous act in other to protect their future.

In the same vein, the NOA Kwara State director, Mr. Olusegun Adeyemi called on all students to remain committed to their course of study while in school in other to secure a better future.

He disclosed that the sensitization campaign will cut across all tertiary institutions in the state if there is availability funds and sponsors.

Adeyemi said “the Agency is working with sister agencies like NDLEA, EFCC, KWASACA, and host of others in achieving it aims.”

The event had in attendance dignitaries such as: the kwara state deputy governor, Mr. Kayode Alabi, Acting Rector of kwara State Polytechnics, Engr. Dr. Yekeen Oyebode, Kwara State Police P. R. O, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, host of others and a large turnout of lecturers and students of the institution.
