The Nigeria Labour Congress on Friday declared a two day nationwide protest over the lingering hardship and faceoff with the Federal Government.
The NLC’s National President, Joe Ajaero, during a briefing with journalists in Abuja, said machinery has been put in place to commence the protest. Adding that the protest would begin a week after the expiration of the 14-day ultimatum it issued to the Federal Government.
It will be recalled that the NLC and the Trade Union Congress gave a two-week ultimatum to the government on February 8, to meet demands ranging from wage increments to improved access to public utilities and accused it of failing to uphold pledges to soften the impact of reforms.
According to him, the decision followed an emergency National Executive Council meeting on the state of the economy and matters related to insecurity in the country.
Ajaero said the Federal Government should not flout the deadline of the 14-day ultimatum which is February
The organised labour lamented that millions of Nigerian workers are facing hunger, erosion of purchasing power and insecurity due to reforms that drove up inflation occasioned by the removal of subsidy.
