Nigerians Visited Porn, Betting Sites 162 Million Times in June – StatiSense

A recent report by global data and business intelligence platform StatiSense has revealed that Nigerian mobile users made over 162 million visits to porn and betting websites in June 2024.

The platform’s latest data highlights the top ten websites visited by Nigerians on mobile devices last month, showing a significant portion of this traffic directed towards adult content and gambling sites.

According to a post shared by StatiSense on its official X page, the top visited websites included a mix of search engines, social media apps, and betting platforms.

Notably, Xvideos and Xnxx, two adult sites, collectively received 80.18 million visits, ranking second and sixth respectively.

This data indicates a substantial engagement with these categories, reflecting broader trends in online behaviour among Nigerian mobile users.

The prominence of such sites in the top ten list underscores the extent to which adult content and betting have become integrated into the daily online activities of many Nigerians.

In addition to these sites, search engines and social media platforms also dominated the list. Google, Facebook, and Instagram were among the top destinations for Nigerian internet users, illustrating the continued importance of these services for information retrieval, social interaction, and entertainment.

The high traffic to betting sites is particularly notable, given the rising popularity of online gambling in Nigeria.

Many Nigerians are increasingly turning to online platforms to place bets on sports and other events, driven by the accessibility and convenience of mobile betting apps.

This trend is likely fueled by the widespread use of smartphones and the internet across the country.

StatiSense’s report offers valuable insights into the digital habits of Nigerian mobile users, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges associated with these trends.

While the popularity of adult content and betting sites raises concerns about the potential for addiction and other negative impacts, it also points to the need for effective regulation and support mechanisms to address these issues.
