Nigerians react as Facebook, WhatsApp platforms crashes

Nigerians have reacted to the recent crash of Facebook and WhatsApp platforms on Monday, October 4, 2021.
At around 5pm on Monday, some users of the both social media platforms experienced a glimpse distruption in communication as messages were not been delivered nor received.

Speaking to some Nigerians on their experience, National Telescope gathered that the distruption affected many to an extent.

While some stressed that the break in communication on WhatsApp and Facebook may have been caused by the company, others are concerned that the distruption may have a bad effect on the economy if not restored.

In a phone chat, a WhatsApp user, Gabriel Omole, said, “Yes, I have not been able to do anything on my whatsapp since in the evening.

And I found out it’s not only me. Maybe something went wrong with it.

Another user, Mrs Bolanle Iyiola stated that she was working on a document when her WhatsApp suddenly hanged and the messages were not delivered.

She said “intially I taught it’s my data, not until I used Google search before I discovered it was the WhatsApp apps.
“This is the first time am experiencing WhatsApp hanging in such magnitude. And I hope they are not planning to also suspend WhatsApp and Facebook like they did to whatapp for Twitter” she added.

In the same vein, a Journalist, Olakunle Enoch expressed dismay on the sudden stop of WhatsApp. He said “am also experiencing it. Infact I tried to send some information but when I got home, I discovered that it wasn’t working at. The WhatsApp just hanged.”

Similarly, a trader who identified herself as Loveth, stated that while other browsers and website is working was working, the facebook platoform stopped working.
Meanwhile, a trader, Mrs. Opoola Adenike lamented on how his business was affected during the period.

She said, “Yes, that’s true, it affected me as well. I paid through transfer the sum of #80,000 for a purchase of materials in lagos and as usual I will have to forward the receipt through WhatsApp before the product is sent. But instead of doing that, my message was not delivered and up till now, I have not heard anything. Although I have called them to send to me their email. That’s the only alternative for now. He added.

However, as at the time of filing this report around 12:25am on Tuesday, National Telescope observed that the services of WhatsApp have been restored.
