Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea Sign Landmark Gas Pipeline Agreement

President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria and President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea have signed a historic agreement on the Gulf of Guinea Pipeline Project, further cementing the strong ties between the two countries.

The agreement, finalised on Wednesday evening, outlines the key legislative and regulatory measures for the gas pipeline, including its establishment, operation, natural gas transit, and ownership.

It also sets the general principles guiding the project.

President Tinubu described the agreement as a groundbreaking development, highlighting its potential to create new opportunities in gas exploration, generate employment, and address Africa’s broader challenges of capital inadequacy, industrialisation, research, and development.

In addition to the pipeline deal, the two presidents discussed vital issues such as security, the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA) and food security.

President Tinubu emphasised the need for African nations to collaborate closely in addressing these common concerns.

President Mbasogo commended the strong bilateral relations between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea and called for deeper cooperation in essential sectors.

He also reiterated Africa’s pursuit of a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

The signing event was attended by several dignitaries, including Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and other senior government officials.
