Niger Explosion Kills Four, Others Injured

A devastating explosion occurred in Sabon Pegi, Mashegun local government area of Niger state, leaving at least four people feared dead and several others injured. The blast, which was initially believed to have occurred at a mining site, was later confirmed by the police to have taken place in a residential house.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with locals scrambling for safety as the explosion sent shockwaves through the community. The cause of the blast is still unclear, but it is suspected that poor handling of explosive devices by a mining company may have been responsible.

The explosion has left the community in a state of fear and uncertainty, with many residents too afraid to approach the scene. “Everybody is afraid to go close to the area for now because nobody knows what will happen next,” said a local villager.

The police have confirmed that one person died in the incident, while six others were injured and taken to the general hospital in Kainji for medical attention. The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Shawulu, has assured that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the explosion.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of mining activities in the area and the need for stricter regulations to prevent such tragedies in the future.

As the community comes to terms with the devastating loss, there are calls for a thorough investigation and measures to ensure that such incidents do not recur.
