Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its crucial role in tackling fraud cases involving Nigerians abroad.
Her praise came during a recent courtesy visit to EFCC Chairman Mr. Ola Olukoyede and his team in Abuja.
According to Abdur-Rahman Balogun, NiDCOM’s Head of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols, Dabiri-Erewa acknowledged the EFCC’s effectiveness in deterring fraudulent activities and enhancing the international reputation of Nigerians.
The meeting also covered important topics such as remittances and the overall perception of Nigeria abroad.
During the discussion, Dabiri-Erewa expressed gratitude to the EFCC for its prompt action on cases referred by NiDCOM and sought assistance in resolving NiDCOM’s office accommodation challenges.
She also highlighted various NiDCOM initiatives, including the National Diaspora Policy, Diaspora Data Mapping, the Diaspora Lecture Series, and the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit, all designed to strengthen ties with the Diaspora community.
In response, EFCC Chairman, Olukoyede expressed appreciation for NiDCOM’s efforts and assured that the accommodation issue would be addressed. He acknowledged the challenges faced by Nigerians abroad, including the negative stigma associated with Nigerian passports, and declared the EFCC’s dedication to recovering stolen funds and improving Nigeria’s international image.
Both leaders pledged to continue working together to enhance Nigeria’s image and support Nigerians both at home and abroad.
