Newborn Found Dead in Port Harcourt Manhole

Members of the Diobu vigilante group made a grim discovery on Tuesday morning when they found the lifeless body of a newborn baby boy in a manhole located at the Ekwe/Ikwerre road junction, Mile 3 Diobu.

The heartbreaking incident reportedly occurred when an unidentified mother abandoned her one-day-old baby in the manhole.

Authorities, including undercover police detectives and the Diobu vigilante group, have launched an investigation to locate the mother responsible for this act.

Godstime Ihunwo, the Chief Security Officer of Nkpolu Orowuronkwo with the vigilante group, recounted the discovery: “At about 5 am on the 23rd of July, 2024, while on patrol with my team along Ikwerre road/Ekwe street, Mile 3 Diobu, we found the newborn dumped in a manhole. Sadly, the baby, a male, was already dead. I immediately reported the case to the Nkpolu Police Division and informed human rights activist, Prince Wiro.”

The community is in shock and mourning as efforts continue to bring the mother to justice and prevent such tragedies in the future.
