NECO Releases 2024 SSCE Results

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the June/July 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), revealing that 60.55% of candidates attained five credits or more, including English Language and Mathematics.

Speaking during a press briefing at the NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday, the NECO Registrar, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, provided detailed statistics on the performance of students.

“A total of 1,376,423 candidates registered for the exam, comprising 706,950 males and 669,473 females. Out of these, 1,367,736 candidates sat for the examination, with 702,112 males and 665,624 females. The number of candidates who secured five credits and above, including English and Mathematics, stands at 828,284, representing 60.55%,” Prof. Wushishi explained.

Further emphasizing the overall success rate, the NECO boss added that 83.90% of candidates obtained five credits and above, irrespective of English and Mathematics.

In addressing issues related to examination malpractice, Prof. Wushishi highlighted a significant improvement compared to the previous year. “The number of candidates involved in various forms of malpractice in 2024 is 8,437, compared to 12,030 in 2023, indicating a 30.1% reduction,” he stated.

However, the NECO Registrar disclosed that 40 schools across 17 states were found to have engaged in mass cheating. “These schools will be summoned for discussions, and appropriate sanctions will follow. One school in Ekiti has been recommended for de-recognition for mass cheating in two core subjects and one Science subject,” Wushishi said.

In addition to this, 21 supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to offenses such as poor supervision, aiding malpractice, abscondment, extortion, drunkenness, and negligence, across 12 states.

Prof. Wushishi encouraged all candidates to check their results on the official NECO website. “Candidates can now access their results on the NECO website at www.neco.gov.ng using their examination registration number,” he said.

This year’s result release follows NECO’s continued commitment to ensuring transparency, fairness, and integrity in its examination process. The reduction in malpractice cases reflects the council’s efforts to uphold high examination standards.
