Large amounts of illegal narcotics and substances have been found during raids conducted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ondo, and Edo throughout the past week.
The NDLEA’s spokesman, Mr. Femi Babafemi, made this announcement on Sunday in Abuja.
He declared that at the Atoshi camp, Emure-Ile, Owo LGA, Ondo State, 227 kg of hemp was found.
There have been two arrests, according to Babafemi.
He added that on February 14, agents in Edo intercepted a shipment of methamphetamine based on intelligence.
According to Babafemi, the shipment travelled from Onitsha, Anambra, to Lagos in a Toyota Sienna bus with the licence plate Anambra NZM 347 ZL.
He added that the 0.966 kg meth shipment was hidden inside an African salad known as “Abacha,” a locally produced dish made with cassava.
“A 42-year-old man who was driving the vehicle was taken into custody in relation to the seizure.
“On the Uromi road in Esan North East LGA, a group of NDLEA police also stopped a 47-year-old man driving a Peugeot 406 space waggon car on the same day.
“After conducting a vehicle search, 865 bottles of codeine, 2,600 tramadol pills, and 600 tabs of swinol and rohypnol were found,” he claimed.
Similarly, in FCT, he added, NDLEA operatives conducted raid operations in the Kubwa area of the Territory and arrested a 47-year-old and an 18-year-old.
According to Babafemi, the suspects were found in possession of 2.9g of tramadol tablets, 13.5g of diazepam, and 10.5kg of cannabis (Indian hemp).
He stated that during the past week, the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy campaign was carried out with the same intensity by the agency’s numerous commands around the nation.
Among them are the staff and students of Banma Girls Day Secondary School in Bida, Niger, and the WADA awareness lecture for the teachers and students of St. Theresa’s College Oke-Ado in Ibadan, Oyo state.
Students from Government Day Secondary School, Tudun Saibu, Soba LGA, Kaduna State, and Dame High School, Abatete, Anambra, are among the others.
Students from Government Girls Secondary School in Garo, Kano State, and Community Comprehensive Secondary School in Obinagu, Udi LGA, Enugu State also benefited from the WADA awareness presentation. (NAN)
