The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vehemently condemned the six-month suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the Senate.
The suspension was handed down by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, after Natasha accused him of sexual harassment.
The PDP views the suspension as a desperate attempt to cover up the allegations, citing the lack of an open investigation into the matter.
The party argues that the hasty suspension violates the principle of fair hearing and portrays the Senate as an institution that condones and protects misconduct.
The PDP also notes that this is not the first time Akpabio has faced allegations of sexual harassment, recalling a previous accusation made by Dr. Joi Nunieh, former Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
The party is urging the Senate to restore its credibility by reinstating Natasha and ensuring a thorough investigation into the allegations.
