NANS Urges Aiyedatiwa to Fulfill Promises to Ondo Students

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has appealed to Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to honor his commitments to students in the state, particularly the provision of palliatives and buses for student unions.

Speaking to journalists, Comrade Oluwarotimi Tobiloba Joshua and Comrade Oluwanishola Ajibola, leaders of the students’ Joint Campus Council (JCC), Ondo axis, expressed frustration over unfulfilled promises.

They emphasized that 12 buses, which were pledged to ease transportation for students, have yet to be delivered.

While they appreciated the recent approval of bursaries and scholarships for indigenous students, they urged the state government to address ongoing challenges affecting higher institutions in Ondo.

“Since the fuel price hike, the cost of transportation, food, and even electricity has skyrocketed. Students are struggling,” Comrade Oluwarotimi said.

He also called on the federal government to intervene in the rising exchange rate of the naira, which is worsening the economic situation for students.

Among the key issues raised were:
The failure to provide the 12 buses for student transportation,
Delayed distribution of palliatives,
The recent hike in tuition fees across state institutions.

The students urged Governor Aiyedatiwa to reconsider the tuition fee hike and explore financial relief options for students.

Representatives from several institutions, including Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Adekunle Ajasin University, and the Federal University of Technology, Akure, were present at the press conference.

“We call on the governor to keep to his word and deliver on his promises for the betterment of students in the state,” Comrade Oluwanishola added.
