NAKSS urges KWSG on KWASU, IAC, other fees reduction

The National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS) has called on the kwara state government to assist the students by reducing the tuition fees in the various state owned institutions

The affected institutions are Kwara state University Malete, International Aviation College (IAC) Ilorin, and International Vocational,Technical and Entrepreneurship College (IVTEC) Ajase-Ipo.

The association emphasized that if the fees is review downward it will go a long way reducing the hardship most parents go through in the state.

The Executive President of NAKSS, Cmr. Musa Muhammad Mancha made the call during a press conference organized at the NUJ press Centre along Offa road, Ilorin on Tuesday.

While assuring the commitment of his leadership towards students welfarism, Mancha disclosed that the Kwara State Government has approved the sum of N100 for the payment of student’s bursary.

“In the journey of this association to ensure welfare for students we have been able to pursued with the state government the sum of N100 million which has been presently been approved for the 2018 bursary. By the grace of God we will not relent in working round the clock to ensure the release of this N100 million by Kwara state government soon.”

Mancha also said “it is also important that we note the aspect of our scholarship. You will agree with me that it has been few years ago we benefited scholarship from the government. But I want to assure you that we are meeting the government and also extending the pursue of the scholarship to private individuals that are wealthy to see how they can assist our students.

“because we understand the fact that it is not as if our teeming youths in the state don’t want go to school but they don’t have the financial capacity to do so. We have visited philanthropists and stakeholders within the state and they have assured us of their supports to contribute towards the growth of education in the state.

Mancha revealed that the association with the support of his executives have introduced a lot of programmes that will benefit the students. Some of these programmes he noted are reduction of students school fees at Kwara state University, state of students hostels/ infrastructures in various schools, lingering strikes of lecturers in colleges of education, cybercrime, kwara must clean programme among others.

According to him through these programmes they have been advocating and prioritizing students welfarism by having a roundabout discussion with some of the schools management to ensure reduction in fees.

” above all, if our students are becoming pilots it will increase the state profile and the entrepreneurial/ vocational skills will assist in reducing the unemployment rate in the state because as graduates from this institution they will be self employed in returns employ others thereby reducing crime in the society.

On the issue of alleged lingering crisis in NAKSS, the president debunked the allegations of suspension by declaring he remains the president of the association and have been carrying out his lawful responsibilities in the state and beyond.

He said “my attention has been drawn to the rumor in circulation that the senate suspended me. I wish to state categorically at least for public consumption that I was never suspended by the Senate or any other. I hereby call on the general public to disregard such rumor as I remain the National NAKSS President. I use this medium to implore those involve in circulation of fake news about my person and NAKSS at large to desist from it.
