The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Special Forces from the 413 Force Protection Group successfully neutralized a notorious terrorist kingpin, Mustapha Abdullahi, and five members of his gang in a fierce shootout on Saturday.
The operation took place along Sabon-Birni Road in Kaduna State, effectively thwarting a planned attack and kidnapping in the area.
Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of NAF Public Relations and Information, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday.
He revealed that the terrorists were intercepted while on their way to attack and kidnap innocent citizens in nearby communities.
“Following an intelligence report received on August 31, 2024, we were informed that a known terrorist kingpin, Mustapha Abdullahi, along with five members of his group, was spotted near Sabon Gida Forest along Sabon Birni Road in Igabi Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
They were likely intending to kidnap, harm, or kill innocent civilians,” AVM Gabkwet said.
He added, “A team of Special Forces from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) 413 Force Protection Group was immediately dispatched to the location. Upon making contact with the terrorists, who were on motorcycles, the terrorists opened fire on sighting the Special Forces. However, they were met with superior firepower from our troops, leading to the elimination of all six terrorists.”
The troops recovered several items from the terrorists, including five locally fabricated den guns, a submachine gun, live ammunition, assorted charms, lighters, SIM cards, and phone cases.
“We remain committed to ridding Igabi, Birnin Gwari, and surrounding areas of criminal elements and their activities. The troops have been commended for their bravery and urged to intensify efforts to safeguard lives and properties,” AVM Gabkwet concluded.
This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Air Force to maintain peace and security in Kaduna State and its environs, ensuring that communities are safe from the threat of terrorism.
