The Lagos State Police Command has condemned the recent vandalism of an MTN office in the FESTAC area.

The incident occurred on Monday when a group of frustrated customers damaged the property, allegedly in response to the deactivation of their SIM cards.

The customers reportedly failed to link their National Identification Numbers (NIN) to their SIM cards, resulting in the deactivation.

Videos shared on social media showed a crowd of subscribers breaking into the telecom company’s premises and causing significant damage.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin, while addressing the incident, stating, “This should not be the way to go.”

He noted that the FESTAC Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and his team responded swiftly, restoring order and ensuring peace in the area.

In response to the incident, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has mandated the immediate reactivation of all affected SIM cards.
