A tragic accident along the Ota-Idiroko Expressway in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State has claimed the lives of an unidentified motorcyclist and his passenger. The incident occurred on Saturday morning around 9 AM.
According to Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, the collision involved a white Iveco truck (registration number AAA 163 YJ) and a motorcycle (registration number DGB 498 UW).
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the motorcyclist was speeding and attempted to overtake the truck improperly, leading to the crash.
Akinbiyi stated, “The accident was caused by wrongful overtaking and excessive speed. Unfortunately, both the motorcyclist and his passenger died at the scene, while a third individual sustained injuries.”
The injured victim was quickly assisted by passersby and taken to a nearby hospital before the arrival of emergency services. The bodies of the deceased were subsequently transferred to the Ifo General Hospital morgue by police and TRACE operatives.
The agency extended condolences to the families of the victims and reiterated the importance of safe driving practices, urging motorists to avoid excessive speed to prevent further tragedies.
In related news, a motorcyclist was reported to have lost his life in Lagos recently after colliding with a moving vehicle while riding in the wrong direction on Carter Bridge. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority confirmed the incident.
