Mimiko to Deliver UNIBEN Convocation Lecture

The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has announced that former Ondo State Governor Dr. Olusegun Mimiko will deliver the Convocation and Founders’ Day Lecture as part of the university’s 49th and 50th Convocation and 54th Founders’ Day celebrations.

This was revealed by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lilian Imuetinyan Salami, during a media briefing at the Senate Chambers on Monday.

Dr. Mimiko’s lecture, titled “The Poor Also Deserve Education: Our Founding Heroes’ Legacies in Educational Equity and Equality,” is scheduled for Thursday, November 21, following an interfaith service at 9:00 a.m.

The week-long events will begin on Wednesday, November 20, with a novelty football match between UNIBEN and the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) teams at the Sports Complex at 3:30 p.m.

Thursday, November 21, will feature the convocation lecture, a Command Performance by the Theatre Arts Department, and an awards presentation to deserving staff.

The award of first degrees and prizes will take place on Friday, November 22, starting at 10:00 a.m. with the Academic and Chancellor’s processions.

The ceremonies will culminate on Saturday, November 23, with the award of postgraduate diplomas, master’s and PhD degrees, and the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees and Professors Emeriti titles.

The Vice-Chancellor commended the UNIBEN community for their efforts in organizing the events and maintaining the institution’s tradition of excellence.
