Military Neutralises 125 Terrorists, Rescues 140 Hostages in Nationwide Operations

The Defence Headquarters announced on Friday that Nigerian troops have eliminated 125 terrorists and apprehended 200 others across the country over the past week.

Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed this information during a briefing in Abuja on significant military operations.

During these operations, troops also rescued 140 kidnapped victims and recovered 120 assorted weapons and 1,793 rounds of ammunition.

The cache of arms included 56 AK47 rifles, 26 locally fabricated guns, 22 Dane guns, one SMG rifle, and seven pump-action guns.

Other items recovered were a fabricated Beretta pistol, mortar bombs, unexploded ordinances, various types of ammunition, 21 AK47 magazines, communication devices, vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, mobile phones, and N2.7 million in cash.

In the North East, Operation Hadin Kai troops neutralized 52 terrorists, arrested 40 others, and rescued 14 kidnapped hostages.

They also recovered numerous weapons and ammunition, including AK47 rifles, fabricated rifles, Dane guns, magazines, and various types of ammunition.

In the North Central region, troops under Operations Safe Haven and Whirl Stroke neutralised 22 insurgents, arrested 38 violent extremists, and rescued 27 kidnapped hostages.

In the North West, troops of Operation Hadarin Daji neutralised 31 terrorists, arrested 21 others, and rescued 30 kidnapped hostages. They also recovered a significant cache of arms.

Maj.-Gen. Buba noted that the air component conducted an air interdiction on July 12, targeting suspected terrorist gatherings in Bukuru, Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State.

This operation resulted in the elimination of several terrorists and the destruction of their logistics.

Offensive operations were also conducted by Operation Whirl Punch in the Kwali Area Council of the FCT Abuja, as well as in Lokoja and Adavi LGAs of Kogi State.

Air strikes on July 8 and July 12 targeted terrorist enclaves in Giwa LGA, Kaduna State, killing several terrorists and destroying their structures.

Additionally, air interdictions in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State resulted in the deaths of several terrorists and the destruction of their camps and logistics.

During these operations, troops neutralised 18 terrorists, arrested 13 suspects, and rescued 53 kidnapped hostages.

Maj.-Gen. Buba commended the troops for their bravery and commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Nigerians.
