The Nigerian military has dealt a significant blow to notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji, killing his second-in-command, Aminu Kanawa, and at least 31 other fighters.
The operation, carried out by troops of Operation Fansan Yamma, also inflicted serious injuries on some of Turji’s close allies, including his younger brother, Dosso.
According to the Defence Headquarters, the military onslaught on Turji’s hideout resulted in the neutralization of several key commanders, including Abu Dan Shehu, Jabbi Dogo, Dan Kane, Basiru Yellow, Kabiru Gebe, Bello Buba, and Dan Inna Kahon-Saniya-Yafi-Bahaushe.
The outgoing Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj Gen Edward Buba, stated that the operation was aimed at creating an atmosphere of safety and security for all citizens. “Troops are not relenting until these terrorists are completely destroyed,” he said.
The military’s success in killing Turji’s second-in-command and other top fighters is seen as a significant blow to the terrorist network in the North-West region.
The operation is part of the military’s efforts to capture or kill Turji, who has been declared wanted and has repeatedly mocked the military.
