Major-General Shuaibu Waidi, the Theatre Commander of North East ‘Operation Hadin Kai,’ has transferred a rescued Chibok schoolgirl, Ihi Abdul, her two children, and 330 other women and children rescued from Boko Haram to the Borno State government.
These individuals were freed during various operations in the Sambisa forests.
During a briefing at the Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, Waidi stated, “Today, we are handing over the rescued Chibok girl and other women and children to Borno State officials for further management.”
He declared the theater’s ongoing efforts to rescue the remaining Chibok girls, following strategic guidance from Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa and Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.
Waidi also expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for the support that enabled the successful rescue of Ihi Abdul.
Waidi noted that the plight of the Chibok girls still in captivity has driven multiple military operations into terrorist enclaves, resulting in the rescue of 19 girls so far.
The Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Brigadier General Abubakar Haruna, explained that Ihi Abdul was rescued by the troops of the 22 Taskforce Brigade.
Ihi, originally from Kuburbula village in Chibok Local Government Area, was listed as number 67 among the abducted Chibok School Girls by the Federal Government.
She was forcibly married to Boko Haram Commander Abu Darda and subsequently married to three different men after Darda fled to Senegal.
She was rescued with her two children and is now three months pregnant. After receiving medical care, she is being handed over to the Borno State government for further assistance.
