Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has enjoined members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to leverage the skills gained during their three-week orientation camp for personal growth and societal advancement.

Governor Makinde, represented by the Director of Youth Development in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mrs. Kudirat Mustapha, made the appeal during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch C, Stream 1 orientation course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ogbakuta, Iseyin on Tuesday.

Addressing the corps members, Makinde said, “Dear compatriots, I am delighted to join you on this significant occasion as you prepare to begin your primary assignments in service to the nation and humanity. Let me congratulate you on the successful completion of this induction program. I am confident that the knowledge and skills you have gained will serve as valuable tools as you embark on this journey.”

He urged the corps members to reflect on the lessons learned during the orientation and apply them to contribute meaningfully to society. “This is a pivotal moment for you to review your camp experiences and focus on how the skills acquired can drive societal development during your service year and beyond. I do not doubt that the training you received will add value to your personal and professional lives,” he added.

Makinde also reminded the corps members of their role in nation-building, emphasizing the need for unity, peace, and democracy. “As patriots in service, let us join hands to create a stronger, more united, and peaceful Nigeria,” he said.

Similarly, the Oyo State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Abel Oche, charged the corps members to embrace the principles of selfless service, integrity, and teamwork as they proceed to their places of primary assignment.

“Over the past three weeks, you have been guided by the core values of patriotism, commitment, and efficiency. I encourage you to uphold these principles and push beyond boundaries and barriers in your service to the nation,” Oche stated.

He also advised the corps members to adopt a positive attitude, which he described as essential for success during their service years. “Your conduct and dedication to duty will determine your success. Strive to excel in your assigned roles, remain law-abiding, and embrace challenges that can enhance your career prospects,” he noted.

Oche further urged the corps members to focus on self-development through skill acquisition. “It is crucial to add value to your academic qualifications by acquiring additional skills that will prepare you for life beyond the service year,” he added.

The three-week orientation program, which concluded on Tuesday, also included corps members dislodged from Lagos State to Ibadan for the training. The program featured various activities aimed at preparing the participants for their roles in community development and nation-building.

As they depart to their respective places of primary assignment, the corps members are expected to apply the skills and knowledge gained during the camp to make a lasting impact on their host communities.
