Makinde task corps members on nation-building as NYSC deploys 2,216 to Oyo

Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde has charged corps members to be committed to nation-building.

He gave the charge at the official swearing-in ceremony of the 2023 Batch ‘A’, Stream II Corps Members held at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Iseyin on Friday.

The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Seun Fakorede, admonished the corps members to see their posting as a call to service, urging them to be dedicated.

He said, “I want to admonish you to see your call to service as a call to dedication and commitment in whatever capacity whether now or in the future for the fortune of this nation. It is imperative for our youth to remain committed to the task of nation building. No nation is great where the largest echelon and cream of it’s future, the youth are not mainstreamed into the challenging task of nation building.

“Though you shall find yourselves in a totally new environment, it should be seen as an avenue to make new friends, gain better understanding of any prevailing circumstances and break new grounds in your host communities.

“I want to assure you that our people are peace loving, warm and accommodating. This administration is committed to corps members’ welfare. You can be rest assured that we shall leave no stone unturned in a bid to make Oyo State very conducive and safe for all and sundry”.

Speaking earlier, the NYSC Oyo State Coordinator, Mr. Odoba Abel Oche, urged the state government on infrastructural development of the NYSC permanent orientation camp to enhance effective training of corps members.

According to him, rain storm recently wreaked havoc on the camp facilities

He also beckoned on Governor Seyi Makinde to support with construction of an auditorium

“I want to strongly appeal to the state government to help us construct an auditorium where corps members can be receiving lectures. Presently we make use of the pavilion which is not ideal for such programme. Moreover, the roofs of our pavilion were removed by the windstorm few weeks ago in which after we just managed to patch one side. This makes it difficult for us to hold any programme when rain falls. We equally request for assistance in the area of hostel accommodation.The existing ones are inadequate for the population of corps members always deployed to the state.”

According to him, the course content for this induction programme includes paramilitary training, Man ‘ O War exercise, social and cultural activities, lectures and language studies.

He appreciated the State Government for their immerse support to the scheme.

“At this junction, I must show our appreciation to the State Government whose support has been of immense benefit to the Scheme. I want to express my gratitude to His Excellency, the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde for his material and financial assistance which has helped us tremendously. I believe sincerely that the keenness which Mr. Governor has always shown on matters relating to corps members’ welfare will continue to be enjoyed by participants in Oyo State”.

The Oath of Allegiance was administered to the corps members by the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Hon. Justice Iyabo Yerima.

A total of 2, 216 corps members were posted to Oyo State for the one year mandatory service.
