Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially presented the certificate and staff of office to the newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade.
The ceremony took place on Monday at the Oyo State Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.
Prince Owoade was announced on Friday as the Alaafin-elect, succeeding the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, the 44th Alaafin of Oyo, who passed away two years ago.
The presentation ceremony was graced by the kingmakers, also known as the Oyomesi, top government officials, and other eminent personalities from the state.
Following the presentation, Oba Abimbola Owoade proceeded to Oyo town, where he was warmly received by his subjects.
He is set to begin the mandatory 21-day traditional rites required for his ascension to the throne.
Governor Makinde expressed confidence in the new monarch’s ability to uphold the rich heritage of the Alaafin dynasty and foster peace and progress in the ancient Yoruba town.
“Oba Owoade has headed to Oyo town to meet the sons and daughters of the community and will proceed with the 21 days of traditional rites for his ascension to the throne of his forefathers,” the governor said.
The new Alaafin’s reign is expected to mark a new chapter in the history of Oyo, with hopes for continued cultural preservation and development under his leadership.
