Makinde assures Corps Members of adequate security

The Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has reinstated his administration’s commitment to the security of lives and properties of Corps Members posted to the state.

The governor said this on Tuesday during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1, Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ogbakuta, Iseyin.

Makinde who was represented by his deputy, Barr. Bayo Lawal assured corps members that his administration will ensure that their security is not compromised during the period of service in the pace setter state.

“I want to assure you that my administration and the good People of Oyo State would guarantee you excellent hospitality while also ensuring that your security and welfare are not compromised. Oyo State is relatively peaceful and you will enjoy the warmness of the people.

The governor enjoined the Corps Members to maximize the potentials and confidence the nation reposed in them, adding that, it is a greater benefit if they seize the initiative to champion the course of national development and transformation.

“Even though times are hard and the economy seems to be in bad shape, we all have our individual roles to play to redeem this nation. Endeavor to productively put in your best no matter how little or big it might be for the transformation of your host communities”.

Earlier, the Oyo State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Abel Oche commended the patriotic disposition of the corps members as demonstrated in their readiness to participate in the orientation exercise.

He said, “They (Corps Members) have been quite splendid in accepting and obeying instructions from camp Officials. Their level of interaction and cross-fertilization of sociocultural ideas and experiences have been very commendable.

“The Orientation Course content has been so packaged in a way as to touch on the attitude of the participants mentally, psychologically and physically. Having gone through this life molding activities, I have no doubt in my mind that they are now fully prepared to appreciate the important role they are expected to play in nation building.

“It is particularly instructive to note that a major aspect of the Orientation exercise has to do with value reorientation among the youth and the need to face the reality of the national situation in respect to post-service employment”.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,745 corps members; male 844, and female 901 were posted to the state for the one year mandatory service.
