Makinde Advises Corps Members to Focus on Post-Service Plans

The Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde, has advised the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream 11 Corps Members to remain focused and contemplate their plans for life after the one-year mandatory service in Oyo State.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch A, Stream 11 Corps members held at the permanent orientation camp in Iseyin, Oyo State on Tuesday, April 23rd, the governor, represented by the Commissioner of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke, urged the Corps Members to utilize their service year to develop themselves and become productive individuals equipped for success in life.

He emphasised the importance of productivity in determining success, encouraging them to unleash their potential for self-actualization and development.

The governor admonished the Corps Members to actively participate in camp activities during the three-week orientation course and strictly adhere to camp rules and regulations instructed by the officials.

He highlighted the significance of embracing the pluralistic nature of the country, urging them to cohabit peacefully, accommodate, and tolerate others. He emphasized the value of diversity in national identity and urged them to use the opportunity to make friends and explore new horizons.

Also, Minister of State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande charged the Corps Members to take advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme of the NYSC.

While commending the efforts of the management, the Minister donated N1.5 million to each of the ten platoons and a cow to the camp.

Earlier, the NYSC Oyo State Coordinator, Mr. Odoba Oche, congratulated the Corps Members on their successful completion of academic programs and urged them to see their call to serve the nation as a privilege. He emphasized the importance of hard work in contributing to the nation’s progress.

Speaking on the Minister’s visit, the Coordinator lauded the Minister for the support, saying the donations will complement the effort of the NYSC in the camp.

The event witnessed the administration of the oath of allegiance to the Corps members by the Oyo State Chief Judge, Justice Iyabode Yerima, represented by Justice Ladiran Akintola.

A total of 2,315 Corps members, comprising 1,177 males and 1,138 females, were posted to the Oyo State NYSC orientation camp for the three-week orientation exercise.

Representatives of collaborating agencies such as the Nigeria Army, Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, and Man O’ War were also present at the event.”
