Leadership crisis buries A’Ibom YPP

The ongoing leadership crises in the Young Progressives Party, Akwa Ibom chapter has finally grounded the youthful party with the defection of it’s only member in the state House Of Assembly to the People’s Democratic Party.

Moses Essien, who represents Ibiono Ibom state constituency, had during the Tuesday’s plenary officially announced his defection to the PDP.

Explaining his reasons under urgent public importance on the floor of the assembly, the lawmaker said his defection to the PDP was as a result of the division among the leadership of the YPP in the state.

His words, ‘…I write to notify the speaker and members of the PDP in the assembly of the formal resignation of my membership of the YPP to the PDP.

The reason for this action is based on the division within the YPP leadership in the state, where the 2023 governorship candidate, the state chairman, state and chapter officers of the YPP have defected to the APC, thereby leaving the party in a state with no tangible structure to fall back on”

He however appreciated the YPP for giving him the platform to be elected into the state House of Assembly.

Motion to receive the new member into the PDP was moved by Lawrence Udoide, who represents Ini state constituency and seconded by his Nsit Ubium counterpart, Otobong Bob.

The speaker of the state House of Assembly, Udeme Otong, while receiving Essien into the PDP said his defection into the umbrella party has swollen the party’s membership to 25 from and congratulated him for taking” a bold step in the right direction”
