LASTMA Cracks Down on Illegal Parking, Fines 52 Vehicles

In an effort to ensure smooth traffic flow across Lagos, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has sanctioned 52 commercial vehicles for operating illegal garages and parking illegally around the Obalende and Iyana-Oworonsoki areas.

According to a statement by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Mr. Taofiq Adebayo, “The 52 vehicle owners will be arraigned at the mobile court for traffic offences.”

The operation, led by LASTMA Director of Operations, Mr. Peter Gbegemede, was carried out following directives from the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr. Sola Giwa.

“These operations will continue, reflecting the authority’s zero tolerance for indiscriminate parking and any impediments to free traffic flow across Lagos,” Giwa stated.

He added, “To ensure smooth and seamless traffic for Lagosians during this festive season and beyond, 52 commercial vehicles were sanctioned for obstructing the free flow of traffic at Obalende and Iyana-Oworonsoki.

“The enforcement operations will be ongoing with zero tolerance for illegal garages and indiscriminate parking. We will also remove any impediments on our roads in Lagos.”

This action underscores the commitment of LASTMA to maintaining order and ensuring free traffic flow throughout the state.

With the festive season approaching, such measures are deemed crucial to preventing traffic congestion and ensuring a smooth transit experience for residents and visitors alike.

The sanctions are part of a broader strategy to enforce traffic regulations and decongest the city’s roads. LASTMA’s continued efforts are aimed at instilling discipline among road users and promoting a culture of lawful parking practices.

The crackdown on illegal parking and the subsequent fines serve as a deterrent to others who might consider flouting traffic regulations.

LASTMA’s operations are set to continue, with a strong emphasis on removing obstacles that hinder the free flow of traffic and ensuring that Lagos roads are safe and accessible for everyone.
