Lagos Taskforce Impounds 70 Motorcycles for Violating Ban

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, also known as the Taskforce, seized 70 motorcycles on Monday in an ongoing crackdown on commercial motorcycles operating illegally in restricted areas of the state.

This operation is part of a sustained effort to enforce Lagos’ traffic and environmental laws.

In a statement obtained by NATIONAL TELESCOPE on Monday, Abdulraheem Gbadeyan, Director of Public Affairs for the agency, confirmed that the Taskforce would maintain these enforcement actions until full compliance with state regulations is achieved.

The impounded motorcycles were seized from several high-traffic locations, including Okuta Road junction in Bariga, Oba Akran Road under the Kodesoh Bridge in Ikeja, and Ladipo by Five Star on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.

Gbadeyan explained that the operation specifically targeted areas where commercial transporters have contributed to severe traffic congestion through reckless driving. Taskforce Chairman Adetayo Akerele emphasized that the agency is committed to reducing indiscipline on Lagos roads, noting that traffic problems are often a result of motorists’ carelessness rather than natural causes.

Previous enforcement efforts included the confiscation of 115 motorcycles in late October from areas like LASU First Gate, Ipaja Gate, Governor’s Road in Igando, and Dopemu, as part of ongoing measures to ensure road safety and environmental order.
