Lagos Reopens Bridge After Rehabilitation

The Lagos State Government has reopened the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge in the Maryland area, following its temporary closure for rehabilitation less than two months ago.

The reopening, which was initially scheduled for 90 days, came significantly earlier, thanks to the swift work carried out by the state Ministry of Works.

In a statement released on Monday, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transport, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, expressed the government’s satisfaction with the progress made.

“We are delighted to inform all road users that the rehabilitation of the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge has been completed ahead of schedule,” Osiyemi stated.

“The bridge will be reopened today, much earlier than expected, with the work accomplished in under two months.”

Osiyemi further explained that the rehabilitation will ease movement and improve traffic flow between the Mainland and Island, offering much-needed relief to road users.

“This project will significantly enhance the daily commute for thousands of Lagosians, particularly those traveling between the Mainland and the Island,” he noted.

The commissioner also took the opportunity to commend residents for their patience and cooperation during the rehabilitation period. “We deeply appreciate the patience and cooperation of Lagosians during this period.

Your willingness to navigate alternative routes, despite the challenges, played a key role in ensuring the swift progress of this important project.”

He extended special gratitude to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) for their efficient management of traffic while the bridge was closed.

“LASTMA has done an exceptional job managing the complex traffic situation during this time, and we are grateful for their dedication.”

During the reopening ceremony, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, issued a stern warning to vandals and scavengers, emphasizing the dangers and consequences of damaging government infrastructure.

“We will not tolerate any act of vandalism or destruction of public property,” Hamzat warned. “Anyone caught engaging in such activities will face severe consequences.”

The reopening of the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge marks another milestone in Lagos State’s efforts to improve infrastructure and ease transportation challenges faced by its residents.
