The Camp Director of the Lagos State National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Grace Oso, has encouraged corps members to actively participate in all activities during their orientation camp, describing it as a unique opportunity for personal growth and national development.
Speaking during the inaugural morning meditation session for the 2024 Batch “C” Stream II Orientation Course at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Iyana Ipaja, Lagos, Mrs. Oso emphasised the importance of embracing camp life with enthusiasm.
She described the prospective corps members (PCMs) as a “special breed” entrusted with the responsibility of contributing to the development of Lagos State and Nigeria during their mandatory service year.
“Your time in this camp is a privilege and a chance to build yourself while contributing to national growth,” Mrs Oso stated, urging PCMs to respect camp officials and adhere to the rules guiding camp activities.
The director also introduced the NYSC campaign slogan, “Build the youth, build Nigeria,” reinforcing the program’s mission to foster unity and prepare young Nigerians for leadership roles.
Mrs Oso further highlighted the importance of maintaining cleanliness, proper dressing, and taking responsibility for personal belongings.
“Please ensure you are well-dressed and keep your environment clean. This is part of your training as future leaders,” she advised.
The session also featured Mrs Omolola Aladesoun, Head of Publicity and Protocol, who led the first-morning meditation. She described meditation as a platform for reflection, skill-building, and the development of leadership qualities.
Corps members were also introduced to the NYSC anthem, with guidance provided on its lyrics and significance.
