In a bid to streamline building approvals, the Lagos State Government has launched an Electronic Physical Planning Permit System, allowing permits to be obtained in just 10 minutes.
Olajide Babatunde, Special Adviser on e-GIS and Urban Development, unveiled this initiative during a ministerial press briefing marking the first anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office.
According to Babatunde, this innovative system aims to facilitate a seamless and efficient process for stakeholders involved in building approvals.
The e-GIS project, which began in 2016 and gained momentum in 2021, is overseen by the e-GIS Office (LAGIS) with the goal of creating a comprehensive digital platform for land administration and geographic information services.
A significant milestone was achieved on December 4, 2023, with the presentation of the bill for the establishment of the Lagos Geographic Information Service (LAGIS) to the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Babatunde highlighted that the e-GIS office has taken full responsibility for supervising and managing the Lagos enterprise GIS upgrade and integrated land administration automated system.
This led to the creation of the Lagos State Geographic Information Service agency.
To ensure a smooth implementation process, stakeholders and the public will be engaged through retreats and sensitization programs to better understand the benefits of the Electronic Physical Planning Process System.
With the introduction of this innovative system, Lagos State aims to lead in digital governance and efficient urban planning.
