The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, has disclosed that many structures in Ibeju Lekki lack proper approval and risk facing demolition approximately 80% of buildings in the area do not comply with the state’s masterplan.
Dr. Olumide emphasised the government’s commitment to upholding regulations and ensuring compliance among land and property owners. He explained that despite warnings and available information on land usage, some individuals proceeded to purchase land and construct buildings without adhering to legal requirements.
Meanwhile, Dr. Olumide highlighted the importance of obtaining planning information and fence permits to understand the designated land usage. He warned that failure to comply with regulations may result in significant financial losses due to the potential demolition of unapproved structures.
The government’s stance underscores the necessity for adherence to regulations and proper urban planning to avoid future legal complications and ensure sustainable development in the region.
