Following the complete reopening of the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu lauds President Bola Tinubu and Minister of Works Dave Umahi for their dedication and timely help.
The Federal Ministry of Works undertook extensive repairs over several weeks, and the governor declared on Thursday that the bridge will once again be open for traffic.
A jubilant Sanwo-Olu congratulated Umahi and Tinubu in a post on his X handle on Thursday for their quick attention to detail and focused attention on the Third Mainland Bridge project.
He noted that the timely and high-quality completion of the required bridge renovations is largely due to their dedication.
Thanking the Lagos State Ministry as well, the governor for their effective traffic management throughout the repair period, as well as the road users for their patience.
It reads, “I am pleased to announce the full reopening of the Third Mainland Bridge after extended repair works have been completed to ensure its safety and efficiency for all residents. Your patience and resilience during this period have been paramount in maintaining our city’s economic momentum.
“I extend my deepest gratitude to HE President @officialABAT and the Honourable Minister of Works, David Umahi, for their expedited focus and attention to detail on the Third Mainland Bridge project. Their commitment has significantly contributed to the timely and high-quality completion of these necessary improvements.
“My thanks also go to the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation for their effective traffic management throughout this period. Their dedication has minimized disruptions and maintained flow, demonstrating our collective strength and ability to overcome challenges.
“As we embrace the smoother journeys that the newly renovated bridge provides, it also calls for a renewed emphasis on road safety. Our shared commitment to safety ensures not only our well-being but also the well-being of other road users. Thank you, Lagosians, for your unwavering support.”
One of the longest bridges in Africa, the Third Mainland Bridge, was under construction for several weeks, which put drivers and other road users in a tailspin.
Among the many things done on the bridge are CCTV, solar light installation, and the replacement of the old tarmac with new.
In the meantime, drivers using the lengthy section of the recently refurbished Third Mainland Bridge are advised to observe speed limits by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
The alert was sent by Olalekan Bakare Oki, the agency’s general manager. According to him, drivers can now get a better driving experience without any obstacles.
He however issued a warning that this would attract drivers to break the speed limit, which could have unfortunate results.
