Lagos Airport e-Gates Fully Operational in Three Weeks – FG

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced on Friday that all 21 electronic gates (e-gates) at Lagos airport will be fully operational in three weeks.

Mr. Tunji-Ojo made this announcement during his inspection of the new terminal at the E-wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

Expressing satisfaction with the progress, he stated, “The installation is complete; what’s left is the Universal Access Transceiver (UAT) and sensor alignment.”

He added that the E-wing would be ready by Monday, after which work on the D-wing, which has eight gates, would begin.

“We can’t close and work on all three airport terminals simultaneously due to movement constraints. We must complete one terminal at a time. By this weekend, the E-wing will be fully completed, leaving only the D-wing.

The D-wing will take roughly three weeks, as it also has eight gates. In three weeks, Lagos will be fully operational,” he said.

Discussing the timing of the e-gates, the minister noted that President Bola Tinubu’s administration had prioritized technology and innovation.

Mr. Tunji-Ojo explained that the e-gates would enhance national security, facilitate global database connectivity, improve public perception of the government, and ease business operations.

He also mentioned that the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja is ready for inauguration, and after Lagos, work will commence on the Kano airport and others.
