Leaders of the Organised Labour are currently in a closed-door session with President Bola Tinubu to discuss a new minimum wage for workers in the country.
The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, and his counterpart at the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Festus Osifo, arrived at the State House in Abuja on Thursday afternoon for the meeting.
The meeting comes after President Tinubu announced in his Democracy Day speech on June 12, 2024, that an executive bill on the new national minimum wage for workers would soon be sent to the National Assembly for passage.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) had earlier stepped down consideration of the memo on the new minimum wage to allow for more engagement with stakeholders.
The Organised Labour is demanding a minimum wage of ₦250,000, while the government and private sector have proposed ₦62,000.
The outcome of the meeting is expected to determine the direction of the minimum wage negotiations.
