KWASU final year student commits suicide over academic performance

Rashidat Shittu, a 20-yr-old final year accounting student at the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has reportedly committed suicide over her academic performance.

According to the report, the incident occurred during the weekend when the student reportedly drank a bottle of pesticide known as Sniper.

One of her colleagues who spoke with Dailytrust on Saturday, stated that the deceased committed suicide ahead of her upcoming exams due to some academic challenges she had.

She said, “When she started feeling pains, she informed her friends and hostel mates that she used the poisonous substance.”

She was thereafter rushed to the school clinic from where she was referred to University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival at UITH.

A Staff member, who was part of the medical team that attended to her at UITH, said, “Her colleagues said she was having issues with her academic status in school. She later informed her colleagues while she was writhing in pain that she had drunk sniper. When they contacted her mother, she instructed them not to take her to the school clinic.

“But that was where she was rushed to at last when her situation got worse before she was referred to the UITH.”

NATIONAL TELESCOPE still waiting to confirm from the school management as at the time of filing this report.
