The Kwara State Government has trained 25 medical personnel on Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (CEMONC) to enhance the safety of mothers and newborns during childbirth.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony of the 14-day residential training in Ilorin, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina El-Imam, emphasized that the initiative aims to improve maternal and neonatal survival rates by equipping frontline healthcare workers with advanced skills.
“This training will not only boost your clinical competence but also sharpen your leadership abilities. It is time to groom leaders who can match technical expertise with the realities of modern healthcare,” she said.
Dr. El-Imam reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare services, revealing that the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) had approved five facilities in Kwara to lead the fight against maternal mortality.
These centers will offer free Caesarean sections as part of efforts to ensure accessible healthcare for all.She urged residents to appreciate Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery in the state.
UNICEF representative Dr. Hadiza Aliyu commended the state government’s efforts, crediting Governor AbdulRazaq’s leadership for creating an environment conducive to healthcare advancements.
