Kwara set to Recruit 1,611 Teachers, Non-Teachers

The Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KwSUBEB) in Ilorin has announced plans to recruit 1,611 teaching and non-teaching staff across the state’s sixteen local government areas.

The announcement was made by the board’s chairman, Prof. Shehu Raheem Adaramaja, on Tuesday.

According to Prof. Adaramaja, the recruitment will include 695 holders of B.Ed. degrees, 605 holders of NCE certificates, 200 security guards, and 111 other non-teaching staff.

“We are committed to enhancing the quality of education in Kwara State by filling these vacancies, which have arisen due to retirements, deaths, and transfers of service to other states,” he said.

The recruitment exercise will be based on a needs assessment recently conducted across the 16 local government education authorities (LGEAs).

Prof. Adaramaja emphasised that the process will adopt a community-based recruitment approach, ensuring that competence and qualifications are not compromised.

“Our focus is to make sure that each community, especially those in remote areas, has adequate educational resources and support,” he added.

In a statement released by Atere Abiola Ameenat, the Press Secretary of the Board, it was noted that successful candidates will be required to sign a bond committing them to stay at their assigned schools for at least five years.

This measure is aimed at addressing the issue of teachers leaving rural postings prematurely.

“We have had challenges with teachers not staying in the hinterlands, and this bond will help ensure continuity and stability in our schools,” the statement read.

Prof. Adaramaja also highlighted that the recruitment drive aligns with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s (CON) commitment to strengthening the educational sector at the local level.

“Every local government area will be adequately represented in this process, ensuring the fair distribution of educational resources,” he said.

The recruitment exercise is expected to last for three weeks from its commencement date, as preparations are being made for the 2024/2025 school resumption in September.

A schedule for the recruitment exercise across the state will be released soon, according to the Board.

“We are working tirelessly to make sure the process is smooth and transparent, and we look forward to welcoming new members to the KwSUBEB family,” Prof. Adaramaja concluded.
