The Kwara State Police Command has announced comprehensive security measures to ensure residents enjoy a safe and peaceful Christmas and New Year celebration.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya, extended his season’s greetings to the people of Kwara and emphasized the need for vigilance during the festivities.

“As we celebrate this joyous period, it is crucial to prioritize the safety and security of everyone in our state,” CP Olaiya said in the statement released in Ilorin.

To maintain peace and prevent criminal activities, the Command highlighted the following measures:

The sale, use, or distribution of fireworks, bangers, and other explosive items is prohibited. The Command warned that these items pose security risks and could be exploited by criminals to instill fear. Violators of this directive will face legal consequences.

Motorcycle (Okada) and tricycle (Keke Napep) operations are restricted between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM. This measure is aimed at curbing crimes often perpetrated using these modes of transport.

Residents are advised to adhere to the following precautions:

Avoid traveling late at night or venturing into isolated areas.

Stay alert and promptly report any suspicious activities to security agencies.

Secure homes and vehicles before attending social events.

Keep emergency contact numbers within reach and share them with family members.

For emergencies or reports of suspicious activities, residents can contact the Kwara Police Control Room via 08125275046 or 07032069501.

CP Olaiya assured the public that officers have been strategically deployed across the state to guarantee safety. “Our personnel will remain on high alert throughout the festivities and beyond. We are committed to maintaining peace and urge residents to cooperate with security personnel,” he stated.

The Command encouraged residents to embody the spirit of togetherness and contribute to making the celebrations secure and enjoyable for all.

“We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year in advance,” CP Olaiya concluded.

The Kwara Police Command’s proactive approach aims to ensure that the festive season remains free of security threats while fostering an atmosphere of joy and unity across the state.
