Kwara Launches C’ttee to Implement New Minimum Wage

By Taiwo Niyi

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has inaugurated a committee to review and implement the new national minimum wage in the state. The ceremony, held on Friday at the Government House Council Chambers, was attended by top government officials, labour leaders, and private sector representatives.

Governor AbdulRazaq stressed the importance of the committee’s role in evaluating all relevant factors to ensure that the new wage structure balances the interests of workers with those of other segments of society.

He noted that while the President’s recent approval of N70,000 as the national minimum wage is a positive step, implementing it requires careful consideration of its impact on various levels of government employees.

“This committee is tasked with assessing all indices and providing practical adjustments for every cadre of workers.

“We must ensure that salary increases are balanced with the need for continued development and the overall interests of the state,” AbdulRazaq said.

The committee, chaired by State Head of Service Mrs. Modupe Susan Oluwole, was commended for its swift formation.

Oluwole praised the Governor for his prompt action following the President’s minimum wage decree, highlighting his commitment to workers’ welfare.

The 18-member committee comprises commissioners, bureaucrats, labour leaders, and private sector representatives, reflecting a comprehensive approach to the wage adjustment process.
