The Kwara State Government has sanctioned a secondary school teacher, Hajia Hamzat Fatimoh Nike, over allegations of assaulting a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member at Government Day Junior Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin.

In a joint statement issued by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, and the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar, the government disclosed that an investigative panel found the teacher guilty of several offenses.

These include fighting while on duty, use of foul language, insubordination, and disrespect for the national identity represented by the NYSC uniform.

“This behavior is a clear violation of public service rules,” the statement noted.

Consequently, Hajia Nike has been demoted by two grade levels, transferred to another school, and will undergo mandatory counseling sessions.

The government condemned the teacher’s actions, emphasizing that such misconduct is unacceptable.

“The State Government will not tolerate such abuse under any guise. The government deeply regrets the action of the teacher and reassures the management of the National Youth Service Corps that the development does not represent the people of Kwara State, and it will not happen again,” the statement added.

Teachers across the state were urged to uphold professionalism and abide by established guidelines. The government also reaffirmed its commitment to providing training on teaching ethics and service procedures.
