Kwara Gov orders release of N50m as Students Bursary, Offers land for Secretariat

…As NAKSS declares to name Secretariat after Gov Ahmed

The Executive Governor of Kwara State Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has directed that the sum of 50 million naira be release for the payment of Students Bursary in the state.

Governor Ahmed who gave the directive at a meeting with leaders of the apex Students body in the State – National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS) also offered a piece of land for the construction of the National Secretariat of the Association.

Confirming this development in a phone chat with CAMPUS FOCUS today, the Special Adviser on Labour and Students Affairs to Governor Ahmed disclosed that the Governor at the meeting addressed issues regarding the students activities and welfare.

Governor Ahmed according to him clearly explained to the students that Bursary is not a right but a privilege and as such should not be an aspect to be protested for.

“Yes, we met with the Executive Governor today and the students presented their request and the Governor who has always have students welfare at heart clearly told the students that Bursary is a privilege and not a right.

“He told them that issues relating to infrastructural facilities and a host of others are right that can worth going to the streets and not Bursary.

“Nevertheless the Governor generously promised that N50m will be released within the week for the payment of the students Bursary.

“On infrastructure, Governor Ahmed informed them of the plans to partner with private sector for the construction of hostels and also went further to promised a piece of land for the construction of the NAKSS National Secretariat.

“He also directed that we should follow up that something has been prepared for the fixing of their official vehicle.” He said

Meanwhile the NAKSS National President, Comr. Mohammed Mancha has assured the students of immediate disbursement of the fund once received.

He disclosed that the Secretariat will be named after Governor Ahmed as ‘NAKSS Magida Villa’ as a landmark achievement on the part of the students.

Mancha in a phone chat with this medium said the meeting with the Governor which is the 2nd time in his administration has recorded great success and achievement without engaging in any protest.

While appreciating all the executives and members for their cooperation, Mancha admonished them to always utilise peaceful dialogue in channeling requests to the government.

He however appreciated the state government for the support while also soliciting the release of remaking part of the fund.

Recall that the students had earlier declared today (Monday) to protest for the release of N100m earlier approved by the state government.
