Kwara Gov Approves Bonus for Workers

By Alimi Micheal

Governor Abdul Rahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has announced a financial relief package for all civil servants in the state, including local government employees.

This special bonus, equivalent to the monthly Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) tax obligation, is designed to support workers amidst ongoing economic challenges.

According to a statement from the Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Hauwa Nuru, the initiative will run for at least three months, providing temporary financial relief from October through December 2024.

“This bonus has been approved as a cushion to mitigate the impact of correct PAYE deductions that have been implemented with the recent minimum wage adjustment.”

Dr. Nuru explained. “It’s a step taken by His Excellency to ensure the wellbeing of workers as they adapt to the new deductions in line with the Personal Income Tax Act.”

The statement also urged all workers to register with the Kwara State Residents’ Registration Agency (KWSRRA) as a condition to qualify for the November and December bonuses.

Meanwhile, Dr. Nuru mentioned that, in collaboration with labor unions, the state has agreed to refund a special levy previously deducted from workers’ salaries, with further deductions suspended indefinitely.

“Governor AbdulRazaq’s approval of this relief package reflects his dedication to the welfare of the Kwara workforce,” she added.
