Kwara aviation college graduates 19 pilots

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has emphasized the importance of discipline, perseverance, and teamwork in achieving success as the International Aviation College (IAC), Ilorin, celebrated the graduation of 19 student pilots—the largest cohort in the institution’s history.

The graduation, held on Friday, included 10 pilots trained for the Nigerian Army, marking a significant step in enhancing the military’s aviation capabilities. Represented by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Saadatu Modibbo-Kawu, Governor AbdulRazaq commended the partnership between the College and the Nigerian Army, noting its impact on national security and economic development.

“The state government is extremely proud of this achievement. These graduates are not just leaving with certificates but with the discipline, skills, and knowledge to make meaningful contributions to society,” he said.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, represented by Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, described the training as a major boost for the Nigerian Army Aviation, aimed at enhancing air mobility and reconnaissance operations.

“As you step into the field, embrace every challenge as an opportunity for growth. The Nigerian Army stands for resilience and discipline, and you must uphold these values in all your endeavors,” he charged the graduates.

The Rector of the College, Captain Yakubu Okahtai, highlighted the significance of the Private Pilot License (PPL) training, describing it as the foundation for advanced aviation skills crucial for both military and civil aviation.

“This milestone is not just about acquiring a license; it is about shaping future leaders in the aviation sector, whether in military or commercial aviation,” he said.

One of the standout graduates, Musa Aliu Damilola, who gained recognition for building mini aircraft and drones, credited Governor AbdulRazaq for making his dream a reality.

“I never thought I would be here today, but with the Governor’s support, I have completed my PPL and I am now pursuing my Commercial Pilot License. This is a dream come true,” he said.

The event was attended by key dignitaries, including the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tertiary Education, Barrister Sabitiyu Grillo, the College’s Registrar Titilayo Sulaiman Wopa, flight instructors, and proud family members of the graduates.
