Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo, has approved the release of N8 billion for the construction of key infrastructure at the newly established Kogi State University in Kabba.
This was revealed by the state’s Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, FCIB, during a press briefing in Lokoja on Saturday.
Hon. Jones explained that the funds will be used to build a new Senate building, a Faculty of Science building, as well as male and female hostels at the university.
He further assured that contractors have been mobilised and that construction work is expected to begin within the next two weeks.
The commissioner expressed the state government’s commitment to advancing education in Kogi, noting that under Governor Ododo’s leadership, there will be continued efforts to build on the educational foundation laid by his predecessor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
“Kogi State has consistently made significant investments in education, and the current administration is fully committed to maintaining and even exceeding the previous 30 percent allocation of the state’s budget to the education sector,” Hon. Jones stated.
He also highlighted that Governor Ododo, who was a key member of the former administration, remains dedicated to prioritising education in the state.
In a related development, Governor Ododo has approved N316 million in bursary awards for 8,750 Kogi students currently studying at tertiary institutions across the country.
These students, who had successfully uploaded their required documents for verification, include 201 Law students who will receive N300,000 each, while the remaining beneficiaries will get N30,000 each.
Additionally, the governor has approved over N600 million for the payment of WAEC fees for 18,734 public school students. The final verification and disbursement process for the WAEC fees is currently ongoing.
