By Ekpenyong Emmanuel

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to enhancing food production in the state, warning that any misuse of government-provided agricultural inputs will not be tolerated.

Speaking at the flag-off of the distribution of agricultural inputs to farmers in Bagudo, Governor Idris directed security operatives to arrest any farmer found selling the inputs provided by the government. The inputs, which include water pumping machines, improved rice and maize seeds, sprayers, and animal feed, were donated by the Member, House of Representatives, Bagudo/Suru Constituency, Muhammad Bello Ka’oje.

The governor emphasized the importance of utilizing the inputs for their intended purpose, which is to improve agricultural production and boost food security in the state. He noted that Kebbi State must maintain its position as a leading producer of rice in Nigeria, and that the misuse of government-provided inputs would undermine this effort.

“We must ensure that these inputs are used for the purpose they were provided,” Governor Idris said. “Any farmer found selling these inputs will be arrested and prosecuted. We will not tolerate any misuse of government-provided inputs.”

The governor commended Hon. Bello Ka’oje for his efforts in empowering farmers and Fulani herders in the state. He noted that the distribution of agricultural inputs was a significant step towards enhancing food production and improving the livelihoods of farmers in the state.

A total of 9,400 beneficiaries from Bagudo and Suru local government areas are expected to benefit from the distribution of agricultural inputs. The items distributed include 180 water pumping machines, 550 bags of improved rice seeds, 1,380 bags of improved maize seeds, 2000 cartons of sprayers, and 1000 bags of animal feed.

Governor Idris expressed his commitment to supporting farmers in the state, noting that his administration would continue to provide the necessary support to ensure that farmers have access to the resources they need to succeed. He urged farmers to make the best use of the inputs provided and to strive to improve their yields, especially in irrigation farming.
