Kano Gov Restores Boarding Status for 15 Girls’ Secondary Schools

The Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has announced the reinstatement of boarding status for 15 girls’ secondary schools that had previously been removed by the former administration.

Governor Yusuf made this announcement through a statement issued by his spokesperson, Bature Tofa, on Monday during an unplanned visit to Government Girls Secondary School in Albasu Local Government Area.

Expressing his dissatisfaction with the previous administration’s decision to de-board the schools, Governor Yusuf said, “It is disheartening to see how this decision has disrupted the education of many bright young girls in our state. We are committed to ensuring that no girl is deprived of the opportunity to pursue her education.”

To address the immediate needs of the reinstated schools, the governor directed the Ministry of Education to urgently deploy teachers for English Language, Mathematics, and Natural Sciences.

“We are taking swift action to ensure that these schools are fully functional and ready for the next academic session,” Yusuf added.

He also noted that rehabilitation work on these schools has already commenced and emphasized the government’s dedication to improving the education sector.

“We will continue to build and renovate classrooms, providing a conducive environment for teaching and learning across all schools in Kano State,” he assured.

Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing the full scope of the state’s declaration of emergency on education.

“Education is the backbone of development, and we will not rest until every child in Kano has access to quality education,” he stated.

During his visit, the governor also inspected the ongoing construction of the five-kilometer Albasu road, which is 98 percent complete.

“I am pleased with the progress made so far, but I urge the contractor to expedite the remaining work to ensure timely completion,” he said.

This move by the governor underscores his administration’s commitment to prioritising education and infrastructure development in Kano State.
